Happy Halloween

Leavenworth was a great weekend, We got back in decent time b/c of the time change a few pounds heavier and a few dollars lighter. Sophie and I brought back head colds as souveniers and I trying to lay low in the Vicks for now. She is holding up well except for at night when she can't nurse or sleep. Yeah. My sinuses about burst coming back over the mountain passes, but at least I can take a few meds. Have to run to the store to get some booty for the forthcoming youths of the neighborhood and am trying to be festive. Didn't make a costume so now have to decided what to do. And on all this Dayquil..yeah.
Anyway..have a great halloween and know I am thinking of many of you from Halloweens past and all the good times trick or treating and dancing the night away. Here are some shots from the trip...

Na Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey GoodBye!!!!

As a proud Soutside girl I can only say...Go SOX! So many people know the Cubs here out West and never understand when I say, "No actually, I'm from the Soutside and I'm a Sox fan." Got really homesick watching all the Bridgeporters and 'Villers celebrate on GN. Something else, man. I still say Comiskey-so you know how long it's been since I've been gone. Well, this is early, but this is my post for the day....let's hear all the rattle!!!!

Going to Leavenworth

And I don't mean prison! After a pretty long bout with not feeling well, Papa and I have decided we need to get away and are heading for a weekend in Leavenworth, WA. Anyone that knows of our annual travels to the HotSprings documentary film festival knows we love quaint mountain towns with lots of German food and beer! While we can not afford to stay in any of the really amazing suites, we will enjoy the drive, that'll be a mint in itself, and get Chicken Pig some fun Bavarian clothes. Lots of great pictures I hope!
Speaking of gas prices, since Papa rides his bike to work and is ranked up there on the Bike to Work Challenge by the way... and me and the Soph try to walk everywhere to fill our days, we have barely driven the car. It feels great! I think we can handle a beautiful drive up the Columbia Gorge into Washington State through the Blue Mountains.
As for Halloween, I figured after I spent $100 trying to make them into LoneWolf and Cub, I could have had a small vacation. We will take the jumper from AuntieShell featured in the earlier post, just so we have some holiday pumpkin with us.
okay..here's one from the last few days...

Blood, Sweat and well, not Tears

It appears Dr. Papa got something at work and came home this morning terribly sick. He and the Chicken Pig are napping until the Tennessee game. Have to go put the flag out front. Believe this has some benefit. Was not out during the LSU game and I scrambled for it during hlaf time and we all know how that turned out!
I agree with TennesseeDrew about "running like Buffalo." Maybe Phil ( is that belly sweat?)should run some drills with the boys to improve discipline by example. I couldn't really take orders from a coach who sweats vegetable oil. Come on, all that weight is not from eating soybeans and green vegetables. No carbs Phil, unless you're gonna burn 'em off. I"ll get the Da and the Ba up just before kick off.

SkyDog71, here is your poem for today:

Weather is the chief agency to my memories
Dark heavy wetness
under the morning sun
a hazy candle of one day
past, passing
Autumn finds my years growing old
They have leaves like this back home
Home

Suede shoes with yellow laces
polyester pleats of brown
Cheeks red with afternoon cool
My dog, no longer long dead
They have leaves like this back home
Home

Bama Game!!!

Are you ready for some football? Saturday is the Tennessee vs. Bama game and I just hope it is not as painful to watch as the Georgia game a few weeks back. We didn't actually get to watch it. Portland always does it's Humane Society telethon on a big game weekend and we have to scrounge for reception somewhere. This time it was Sirius radio complements of PawPaw Bill in town to visit. It sounded painful, okay. Big Daddy is postcall and we are gonna tune in , tune out and eat really bad food.

Not much going on today. Been hitting the indoor play and library like they're giving away free money. Chicken Pig is on the snooze and I'm on diaper patrol. Boy. Jason asked me yesterday if my needs were becoming more existential. I hope he was joking. We need ideas for our family VayCay in March. By family, I mean 3. Not going back east, not suffering any visitors, just us. I'm thinking the Southwest, cause we've never been. Suggestions and donations accepted.

I've forgiven the evil step-sisters about the whole birthday misunderstand b/c they usually buy me good Jesus season gifts and I have the comfort of knowing I've always been the smartest and the prettiest. Sorry, but it's true.

Have a good weekend. Need to work on our Halloween costume. Look out JoAnn fabrics!

Fried Dough and Boston Boys

First off, thanks to Gidge for the link to watch the O'Reilly interview on Jon Stewart. Only the crystal ball of another mom knows that as soon as the segment would go to air-my Chicken Pig would stir and need my attention. Is that how you spell breast?
We'll talk tomorrow about my mom's birthday suprise. Somehow from 2500 miles away I got blamed for letting the cat out of the bag. Hmmm. Seems Anastasia and Drizella have been plotting against me. Typical.
This Thursday is devoted to my lil Cuz-L.L.- who has a passion for young Boston boys, fried dough and microbrews. Must be the influence of my husband. Especially the young boys part. Yes, this is indeed her glory shot from VayCay at the Smuttynose Brewery in Portsmouth, NH. Cheers Cuz. I don't remember too much about junior year in high school except wanting to be somewhere else more exciting all the time and listening to a lot of old B-52's and Naked Raygun. Okay. We'll discuss the bounty on my head tomorrow and allow the girls some time to think about how to make it up to me!

Mommie Dearest

Today is all about "no more wire hangers." Chicken Pig had a rough night and was keeping the whole town awake. I fear when we miss naps b/c Papa comes home early-we are Linda Blair until about 3am. So, I am heading out early to the library to return a gallon of books and treat myself to some caffeine. Chicken Pig is 'on punishment' learning to play alone in the bathroom. Boy, has my life become exciting. I am looking forward to catching the replay of The Daily Show to see Bill O'Reiley (not sure how to spell it and no, there'll be no link...let my sister Jen handle that in her comments) I was tempted to watch the replay at like 2am but was still convinced she would fall asleep. Okay...Jason's turn next. I'm burnt. Glad everyone is leaving some comments. I will begin to discuss some of you at length in the next few days. Starting with my 'Cuz' and her summer adventure chasing down Boston boys and fried dough.

Basia's Birthday

Well, this is going to be harder to squeeze into my day than I previously thought. Papa is taking 'the One' to the park for a few minutes before her supper, so why not? Ran to the Montivilla Community Center today for indoor play and had a great time. I thought I wasn't gonna make it today....was dreaming about coffee, rock concerts and a hot bath by 9:30 this morning. Got the bath just a few minutes ago and will set the coffee maker for tomorrow's treat. No rock concert this week.
Still have not decided what the purpose of this will be-at best keeping our friends and family somewhere still in our lives, even this poor excuse. Let's face it. The cell phone bill has us in debtors' prison and trying to write everyone will have to wait until the 'It' can sit still long enough to color or at least not eat what it rips up.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BASIA
Speaking of squeezing things and debtors' prison, I have to mention it is my favorite parent, uber-Librian Barbara Joan's birthday today- the Bash is 61! Yes, that is a recent photo of my mom at a harvest farm/pumpkin patch where I'm sure some small child was watching in confused horror. Hey, Mom, you did a great job all these years and you deserve better action than Grandpa Munster! You will get some Rocky Mountain train adventure by 65. I promise!
Okay. Running out of time before the two lights of my life return. I'm sure Sophie will be injured in some way and Jason's coffee mug will be empty.

First Post

Being so far from most folks we know, knew, used to know, know for now, figure this will be an easy way for everyone to keep up on all our adventures and not so adventures. As for the blog name, Matt, we know you know and hope you realize, deep down, you are the true Lonewolf, but after these few years and our days before the Gates of Hell in Memphis, your Cub has grown and has a cub of his own. With Halloween coming up, we are going to try to make the Baby Cart From Hell and have Sophie in tow as the one true Cub. We'll see. Not much of a sewing genius when it comes to Samauri costumes. Oh, and what do I get to be? The mom holding the camera. Great costume. Here's a few shots of Sophie getting all pumpkin cute. Yeah, I said it.
